Okay, so this just reminded of this time when I was a kid. My moms friend Nilda owned a mexican store, and it was just opening. We had went to Walmart and she was choosing what color she was going to paint it on the outside. She ended up choosing bright green and purple. I clearly remember her saying, “Jade do you know why I chose these colors? Because us mexicans choose bright colors so that it will attract peoples attention to their business and get them to come by.” This doesn’t directly tie into manipulating public opinion, but it does relate to manipulating publics senses. In the article on page 961 it states, “He knows the basic emotions and desires of the public he intends to reach, and their prevalence and intensity.” I feel that in a way that relates because we all know the basic ways to sway someones attention or opinion in this world. I feel that speech is one of the biggest ways that we can sway public opinion. When people are capable of giving a good speech or can passionately talk about something that they are trying to persuade someone about the power of wording things in all the right ways can manipulate the way people think. A good example of that would be a boy cheating, he is cheating on a woman but when she goes to confront him he already knows all the right words to say. Which can manipulate the woman into feeling like she is stupid for feeling the way that she does even though what she is thinking is actually the closest thing to the truth. Manipulation is something so hard to understand but so easy to do. And is also one of the most used tactics in the presidential elections. With the presidential campaign going on, those candidates are working very hard to change the publics opinion about them so that they get voted for. They start off siding with one thing, realize its not what the world wants so they quickly change their mind and use tactics to manipulate publics opinion.
So, when you see bright buildings or flashing signs, they’re manipulating you.
When you have a cheating boyfriend and you stay, he is manipulating you.
And please, please watch the presidential campaign this year closely. You don’t want to choose the wrong candidate because he or she is simply manipulating you.
